In 1905, an 11 year old left a cup filled with powdered soda, water and a stirring stick on his Northern California porch. Low temperatures caused the mixture to freeze and the popsicle was born. The name “popsicle” came to be after the inventor, later in life, made the summertime treats for his children and they referred to them as “pop’s’sicles.” Today over 2 billion popsicles are sold every year.
