In Greek Mythology, The Erotes are a collective of winged gods associated with love. They are part of Aphrodite’s retinue. The two most known Erotes are Anteros and Eros.
Anteros is the god of requited love. He punished those who scorned love and was the avenger of unrequited love. He was given as a playmate to his lonely brother, Eros. He is described as being armed with either a golden club or lead arrows. Eros is the original, primordial god of love. He was also worshiped as a fertility deity. His mischievous interventions in the affairs of gods and mortals cause bonds of love to form, often illicitly. He is depicted as carrying a lyre or bow and arrows.
