It has been theorized that it would take about 6,000 years for a space colony of humans to begin evolving into a new species. After 300 years on their new home planet, they would likely develop their own languages and cultures. Eventually they would develop new physical characteristics - different skin, hair texture, and stature. There has also been speculation that space colonists could develop larger eyes to compensate for lower levels of sunlight or thicker bones to combat the force of gravity.
